You Want To Visit Disney Parks?
Of course you want to visit Disney World or Disneyland or both! The primary question is . . . WHEN! That can be complicated between your personal schedule, work, school, and deciding how crowded you can handle. Don't fret, we're here to help. My family and I have gone to Disney World at least twice a year for the past 15 years, and we love to talk about our experiences, what we've found to work the best, and more. A big part of that is understanding the crowds at the Disney Parks.
Disney Crowd Calendars
We've done a lot of research to build our Disney Crowd Calendar. Each year we look at a combination of holidays, Disney events, events at Orlando convention centers, attendance numbers, and the Disney website itself to create a crowd calendar that can be used a guide. Don't use these as the end-all-be-all, as things can change throughout the year, but they are most certainly good guides to help point you in the right direction.

Expert Tips and Tricks
My family and I have gone on more than 50 combined trips and have spent more than 1 total year (yes, 365+ days) at Disney Parks and that's allowed us to rack up just a few expert tips based on our own experiences, trials, and errors. Here's just a few quick ones as it relates to crowds:
Expert Tip: Look at Airline Prices
The price of an airline ticket is a strong indicator of when, or when not, to go. The higher the ticket price, the more likely that there will be strong crowds. Look for lower prices.
Expert Tip: Hotel Prices
The price of Disney Hotels, especially the value hotels, are a strong indicator of how crowds will be. If some of the value hotels, such as the All Star Resort, has a high price, that likely means there will be huge crowds.
Expert Tip: Holiday Travel
The holidays at Disney Parks are the most crowded times. The most crowded of which is between Christmas and New Year's Day. And the worst of even that time is New Year's Eve Day, which often sees parks reach capacity. After several crying fits from our kids, we've learned the hard way to plan ahead. If you are going to be at the parks for New Year's Eve Day, make sure you wake up early.
In Disney World, the Magic Kingdom often reaches capacity within 3 hours of the park opening. Followed by Hollywood Studios reaching capacity around 1 - 2 pm. EPCOT is often the last to reach capacity given its immense size, but don't wait too late. We have been at EPCOT around 3pm before when it reached capacity.
What does reaching capacity mean? That means you can't enter the park until someone else leaves. So, don't be that person standing at the gate waiting and wishing you had planned better!
When are Disney Parks The Most Crowded?
As you can probably imagine, Disney parks are the most crowded around holidays and breaks from school. Most of us (myself included) often have little choice but to visit during these times because that's when the kids are out of school. But, if you do get into a situation where you can visit outside of these high-traffic times, do it!
The most crowded days, by far, are:
New Year's Eve
Typically the Magic Kingdom will reach capacity very early in the morning, followed by Hollywood Studios, and then EPCOT might reach capacity later in the day.
Week before Christmas through New Year's Day
Week before Thanksgiving until a few days after
Memorial Day Weekend
Spring Break (varies every year, but usually late March through mid April)
Next Most Crowded are:
Labor Day
4th of July
Start of Summer Vacation (usually June-ish timeframe)
When is Disney The Least Crowded?
This can vary a bit every year depending on other events happening in and around Disney World. The best times are often right after most schools begin, a few weeks before schools begin to let out, or right in between major holidays. Historically, due to a combination of potentially oppressive heat & humidity, school being in session, and other factors, September has been the least crowded. I've had decent luck with the 1st weekend in September being fairly reasonable on crowds.
Traditional Least Crowded Times Include:
January 4th until a week before President's Day
September (Kids are back in school!)
Week after Thanksgiving to the week before Christmas
Another way you can avoid some of the crowds at the Magic Kingdom is by going to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween party. They keep attendance limited and it can greatly help how much you'll be able to get in during the day.
How Can I Judge Crowd Levels?
The best tool I've found to judge crowd levels is to look out at when you want to go and then go to Disney World's website and look through the hotel prices. Check some weeks around when you want to go and compare prices. If you are seeing that a lot of hotels are available and prices seem lower than weeks around it, then you're probably on the right path to lower crowd levels. But if you are seeing high prices, particularly on traditionally budget friendly or moderate hotels, then you may be in for high crowd levels.
How Many People?
Walt Disney World in Florida is the most visited theme park area in the world. It gets crowded. So anytime you visit, stay calm, and remember: this is a family-centric place to have fun. It is not a place to get mad or frustrated, especially when you know it will be crowded pretty much any time of year. Check your ego and temper at the gates, put your ears on, and have fun.

The Magic Kingdom at Disney World has been the most visited theme park in the world for many years in a row (2008 - 2026 + Beyond).
Disneyland in California is one of the most visited theme park areas in the world. It gets crowded. So anytime you visit, stay calm, and remember: this is a family-centric place to have fun. It is not a place to get mad or frustrated, especially when you know it will be crowded pretty much any time of year. Check your ego and temper at the gates, put your ears on, and have fun.

Keep in mind, the numbers above are on-par with Disney World in Florida, which is a significantly larger resort. That means more people packed in a smaller area.
What Are the Park Capacities?
Although I have not found official numbers from Disney, here's what seems to be the most commonly accepted answers for the attendance capacity at each park.
